We’re delighted to share an important update from one of the research projects funded by the Children’s Burns Foundation. The study, titled “Investigation of Problems with Burn Wound Healing”, has reached a significant milestone — and we’re proud to have played a role in supporting this vital work.
Using a historic frozen sample of clinical tissue, the research team has successfully performed laser microdissection to isolate specific areas of interest. This delicate and highly precise process allowed them to extract enough protein for initial proof-of-concept analyses — a crucial step in understanding why some burn wounds fail to heal as expected.

We’re thrilled to report that this work has been accepted for oral presentation at the British Burns Association’s Scientific Conference in June 2025. The researchers will be acknowledging the support provided by CBF at this important national event.
Following this success, the team has also managed to improve protein extraction from the remaining clinical samples. They are now working with the Biochemistry Core Facility to process the data — an essential step before detailed analysis can begin. We look forward to hearing more about what their findings reveal.
This kind of research could pave the way for better understanding, treatment, and outcomes for young burn patients in the future — exactly the kind of impact CBF is committed to supporting.
